About Our Class
Dear Second Grade Parents and Guardians,
Welcome to one of the most amazing years your child will have in school! Second grade is an exciting time as children enter new experiences in the world of learning.
This is a year of important transitions, as well as one in which achievement in new skills are increased.
During second grade, your child will learn how to increase reading fluency, write stories with more details, add, subtract, and so much more. I hope to make your child's learning experience a fun and exciting one. I also hope to inspire a love of learning that will last a lifetime.
So much happens in second grade. Because of this, parents and children may have some concerns about what will happen. It is extremely important to remember that we build on small successes. Each child will progress at his/her own rate and acquire skills as he/she is developmentally ready. Maintaining each child's self-esteem and building a secure foundation for future growth will always remain a priority in our class.
Here are some ways you can help:
* Celebrate your child's success, no matter how small it may seem.
This will keep your child enthusiastic about learning and proud of his/her work!
* Check and read your child's S.T.O.P. Binder every day.
This will have all important information and skills to review.
*Read to and with your child every day.
This will remind your child that reading is important to you too.
* Call or e-mail me with any questions or concerns.
This will improve our lines of communication.
The more your child is exposed to language (oral or written), the easier it will be for him/her to incorporate new skills into reading and writing in our classroom.
Second Grade is a Work in Progress!!
Your Child's Teacher,
Ms. Alfieri
